Thus spake a brother....

The other day I sat wondering - What is the best thing about being a guy? Is it the liberty, the compartively lesser restrictions, the greater sense of safety when dealing with strangers or visiting an unknown place or using public transport, greater opportunities at workplace or the general freedom to be myself, to blaze my own trail, something of which I have often seen Indian girls being deprived due to those age-old theories of societal pressure, family's reputation, tradition etc.

No. None of this. To me the greatest privilege of being a guy is that I can be a brother. A brother to my sisters. Yes, I love my sisters a lot.

I have seen the selfless love that sisters bestow on their brothers. On Rakshabandhan days, I have witnessed the sisterly eyes mutely blessing their brothers. Ever heard brothers and sisters, separated by a great distance, wishing each other on Rakshabandhan day, on Radio-Mirchi? If not, try it this year. Try to gauge the emotions in those voices and you will have one of the most sublime experiences of your life (At least, I had). Someone rightly said in his blog - the greatest pleasure lies in seeing one's sister tearing away the wrapper of gift that one gave to her. I have experienced that pleasure and the experience cannot be put in words. i have 5 sisters whom I call up on Rakshabandhan. On other days too, I call them up or mail them. But there is something about the Rakshabandhan day. I feel very different when I hear from the other side: "Happy Rakshabandhan. Did you tie my Rakhi on your wrist?". Those have been some of the happiest moments of my life. Lucky me! I am assured of happiest moments every year!

The sister-brother relationship is a bond of motley experiences. There are times when your sisters look up to you as a friend in whom they can confide. They trust you for protection. They look up to you as a pillar for support. And then, there are times when they stand by as a wall when yo feel like a creeper. They can treat you as a kid who needs to be corrected for his foolisheness. They can become your mother when you need one.

I had my share of terrible fights with my sister. And then I have cousins and other sisters upon whom I may shower unlimited love but when it comes to anger I need to restrain myself. But as females, all my sisters shall be playing the noble roles of daughter, sister, wife, mother and in the process sacrifice a lot. The least I can do is to give them the love and respect that is due to them. I may be younger to many of my sisters but as time passes the brother always grows up to take the sister in his protection. To me, my sisters are extremely tender souls to be protected from the harshness of this world. I cannot stand to see any of them in tears. Bringing a smile to their faces gives me a unprecedented feeling of satisfaction.

My sisters have always been one of the biggest sources of motivation for me. I know that they will love me as much even if I bungle up in life and end up being a non-entity. But when I imagine the sparkle in their eyes that would be when I would call them up to tell them about my latest success, the drive withing me to work hard intensifies.

That I am blessed with so many loving sisters is to me the best thing about being a guy!

Yes!Very right but also one thing which is strange ......you only realize that what beauitful bond you had together after you are away from them!At that moment you have your egos(yes i have that very much with my bro-seems so!),attitudes,ehh......after some time all that vanishes in thin air if I see an upset mood of his and we talk like matured people. And again the brick-bracs start I.....hehe.Strange relationship!
(m sorrie if the "comment" was a story altogether ....jus cudnt refrain from posting my thoughts)
